Establishing a good partnership with parents is a priority for everyone here at Waverley Primary Academy.
Here at Waverley Academy we believe that strong, positive partnerships between school and home are essential to every child’s success. We value the role of parents and carers as the first educators and know that when we work together, children feel more supported, confident, and ready to learn.
We encourage regular communication with families through half termly newsletters, Class Dojo, and informal catch ups like at our half termly coffee mornings where invited visitors are also available to offer advice and support. We are always happy to talk through any concerns or questions parents/carers may have.
Parents’ evenings take place twice a year. The Autumn term will focus on how children are settling into their class, and the Spring term meetings will review progress. All children, including those in the nursery, will receive an end-of-year written report.
There are lots of simple but powerful ways you can support your child’s learning at home, including:
- Reading regularly together and talking about books
- Practising number bonds and times tables
- Encouraging writing through shopping lists, diaries, or stories
- Asking questions about their day and showing interest in what they’ve learned
- Supporting a regular homework routine
- Using educational websites or apps suggested by school
- Monitoring your child’s on-line activity and ensuring parental settings on their devices are in place.
We know that families sometimes need extra help, and we’re here to support you. Whether its advice on routines, attendance, behaviour, or wellbeing, our staff team is approachable and understanding. We also work closely with local services and support networks to offer practical help where it’s needed.
Support available may include:
- Access to our Safeguarding Team for guidance and signposting
- Help with attendance and punctuality through our Attendance Team
- Information about free school meals and financial support
- Links to local community and health services
We are committed to being a safe place for all, and being a welcoming and inclusive school where all families feel listened to and valued.
Together, we can build a strong foundation for your child’s future, because at Waverley Academy, every child matters, and every family is part of our community.
Please contact the school office who can put you in contact with the appropriate member of staff.

Early Help
Why do parents and carers seek early help?
It could be that you’re worried about your child’s health, development or behaviour, or perhaps because you are caring for a disabled child. Maybe you, your child or your whole family are affected by relationships within the family, drugs or alcohol or you are experiencing personal distress or anxiety, financial or housing problems. By getting help from the right services at the right time, and as early as possible, we can help prevent or reduce potential problems for children as they grow up. The leaflet in the link below explains more about the help available to you and so does our video at the bottom of this page. Miss Reed in school can support and offer further information about Early Help.

Support is also available for those whose behaviour is harmful and who want to take positives steps change their behaviour. Inspire to Change has been designed to help participants learn new skills and find better ways to manage and control their abusive behaviour. It encourages participants to think and behave more positively to prevent harm to their partner, children and family in the future.
